Type 2 dropped spindles are an essential ingredient for creating a lowered Bus. The spindle is the piece the front drum or disc attaches to. Stock spindles have the spindle section in the middle. Do what you have to do to get the engine speed down below 1,000 rpm. Look for anywhere between 0* and 7.5* BTDC. If timing is above 7.5* at less than 1,000 rpm, adjust your above timing (step a) down towards 25* BTDC. b) check idle timing with H & I vacuum hoses back on, central idling solenoid wire #13 re-energized.

Let the engine warm up and set the ignition timing. Then, on each carb, wind the idle mixture screw in until the engine starts to slow down, then wind it slowly back out until it starts to speed up again. Leave it there. Adjust the idle speed screws the same amount on each carb until the idle speed is right.

Restart the engine and recheck the maximum advance timing. Allow the engine to idle and, with all of the vacuum hoses still disconnected and plugged, reset the idle speed to spec (850-900 rpm) per the idle procedure above. Check the idle timing and make a mark on the crankcase that that point.
